Sony’s current flagship Android phone, the Xperia Z is one of the top rated smartphone models on the market. The handset combines stylish design with a number of advanced specifications, which has led to it becoming one of the most popular smartphone models of 2013. The device clocked up millions of sales along with widespread critical acclaim, and become one of the Japanese manufacturer’s most successful devices.

The Sony Xperia Z offers excellent performance thanks to a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. However, it has recently been reported by GSM Arena that Sony may be in the process of developing a new version of the device with an upgraded processor. The website has reported that the source claims to have used a Sony Xperia Z handset which runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. This is one of the most powerful processing units available for a smartphone, and is set to be included on a number of upcoming handsets, such as the HTC One Max, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and Sony’s recently announced Xperia Z Ultra, the company’s first foray into the phablet market. Latest Sony Xperia Z details here.

At the moment, we do not know whether Sony is planning to release a Snapdragon 800 running Xperia Z, or if the handset was made purely for testing purposes during the development stages for the Xperia Z Ultra.

The Sony Xperia Z packs plenty of other high-end features, including a 5 inch 1080p display, 13 megapixel camera, Android Jellybean OS and IP55 and IP57 certifications, meaning the phone is officially certified as waterproof and dust proof. Although Sony’s recently announced Xperia Z Ultra sports a downgraded 8 megapixel camera from its Xperia Z counterpart, a massive 6.4 inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset making it one of the most powerful smartphone models available.
